Warden — Privacy Notice

Last updated 13 August 2026

Warden helps a Shopify merchant find products — and a chargeback ratio — that could put their store at risk under Shopify's Acceptable Use Policy and Shopify Payments terms. To do that it reads the merchant's own product catalogue, Online Store pages and blog posts, store policies, contact and business address, and a count of recent orders and payment disputes. It stores only the resulting findings and numbers — never a shopper's name, email, address, order contents or payment details.

What we store

DataWhy
Store domainTo identify your shop and your subscription.
Your app settingse.g. whether automatic monitoring is on.
Scan resultsThe risk score and the flagged items, so the dashboard loads without re-scanning. This covers your own products and — where risky wording is found — the titles and matched snippets of your Online Store pages and blog posts. Your own store content only.
Store configuration read at scan timeYour store's published policies, contact email, business address and primary domain, checked for setup gaps. We store the resulting findings, not the raw values as a separate record.
Chargeback statsHow many orders and how many disputes you had in the recent window — the two numbers behind the chargeback ratio. Counts only, never individual orders or shoppers.

What we never store

No shopper data of any kind: no names, emails, customer IDs, addresses, IP addresses, order contents or payment/card information. To measure your chargeback ratio Warden reads order and dispute records only to count them — it keeps the totals, never the underlying orders or the people behind them.

Retention & deletion

Scan results and settings are kept while the app is installed and are deleted when you uninstall, in response to Shopify's shop-redaction request. You can request deletion at any time.

Advisory, not a guarantee

Warden flags language and categories that commonly trigger Shopify enforcement. It is a best-effort early warning, not a guarantee of compliance and not legal advice. Shopify's policies are the authority; we link to them so you can verify every finding.
